Not only is it important in se ing the overall mood for
play, it can dictate emotional responses to the player. Whether you??™re struggling to make it to the end of a
level or waiting for the next monster to appear from around the corner, the music and sound can make the
player??™s heart race or stomach drop. In this article we??™ll be exploring two titles that I composed the music and
sound design for and how we utilized audio to solve design challenges and give a rich aural experience to the
player.
Diner Dash
Diner Dash broke boundaries with its simple one-click gameplay and distinctive style. In the game you play
Flo, a struggling waitress that wants to ditch her desk job to open her own restaurant. The player helps Flo
grow her ?¬‚ edgling diner into a ?¬? ve-star restaurant by managing di?¬? erent tasks as a waitress, such as seating
customers, taking orders, bringing them co?¬? ee, etc. As the game progresses, the restaurant grows, and the
player purchases upgrades for the restaurant, which poses new challenges.
When shaping the music for the game, we wanted to keep it away from the more traditional puzzle
music that you heard in casual games at the time.
